Abstract:Objective:To understand the efficiency of iso lated liver perfusion with melphalan for unresectable malignant liver tumors. Methods:In March 2003, we adopted Isolated Liver Perfusion (ILP) with melphalan under high temperature in the treatment of an unresectable primary liver tumor. Results: On the sixth postoperative day, obvious liquefaction necrosis occurred in the tu mor. ILP is a new and effective technique for treating unresectable primary tumors, particularly metastatic tumors. Conclusions:While performing the surgery, a skillful doctor should not only be aware of possible preoperative complications of ILP , but also monitor patients very carefully during both the perioperative and postoperative periods in order to avoid acute impaired coagulation function and liver-kidney function failure. In this paper, the ILP conditions, trends and recommendations for further study are discussed.
